Wine Grape: Sangiovese
Sangivoese is a red wine grape, probably originally from Tuscany, but may be from Emilia-Romagna. It goes back to Etruscan times. There are various theories for the name Sangiovese. Some say the word has to do with characteristics of the grape and its cultivation and comes from a Tuscan dialect, French, or Latin. Others say it means "Blood of Jupiter" or "Blood of Jove". It is the most cultivated grape in Italy.
