We'll start with an insider overview of French wine, and especially Burgundy.
Highlights:
Expert winemaker Patrick Luquet welcomes you this morning at his domain to taste premium Pouilly-Fuissés, St Vérans, Mâcon Villages and Beaujolais Crus. At Château Tour de L’Ange we will visit the estate and then we are invited to lunch with a full selection of their wines. This afternoon we are in Beaujolais country for visits of two premium Beaujolais Crus.
Highlights:
This morning we have arranged a guided tour of Cluny. Built in the 10th century, this influential Benedictine Abbey was to become Europe’s largest building until St Peter’s in Rome was rebuilt in the 16th century. Next you are headed north through Givry and Mercurey with lunch at a local favorite in charming medieval Rully. We will have a great selection of wines here, especially the whites. As Alfio likes to say, "a great Rully is like a Puligny-Montrachet that you can drink every day". We are in for a treat with some great Crémant de Bourgogne too. Rully is where Burgundy made its first sparkling wines in the 18th century. On our way to Beaune, we will go through the famous vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard. This afternoon we will check into our 4-star hotel in Beaune and enjoy tonight’s exceptional dinner at a local favorite.
Highlights:
Today you are in the vineyards of Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie… Your first tasting is as a welcome guest of Patrick Javillier, tasting his elegant wines at his domain in Meursault. Then you are off to Santenay for an visit with Gérard Fagnoni of Château Philippe le Hardi. This chateau was the residence of Phillippe le Hardi, the last Duke of Burgundy. At the time, the Duke of Burgundy was more powerful than the king of France. Later, you are in the stunning courtyard of the beautiful 15th century Hospices de Beaune. Built in 1453, this historic hospital owns some of the most coveted vineyards in Burgundy. Every November it is home to the world’s most famous wine auction. We will suggest local favorite restaurants for your free evening in Beaune.
Highlights:
Explore the Côtes de Nuits, north of Beaune today. Discover the famous terroir and vineyards of Romanée Conti, Romanée St. Vivant, and La Tache. Later this morning, visit Château du Clos de Vougeot and enjoy a guided tasting of Clos Vougeot nearby. This afternoon you are back to the vineyards tasting wines in Nuit-St-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin. Our final dinner together this evening is at an elegant Michelin-starred restaurant.
